Family Activity

  • Stand well back & have a good look at this beautiful horse chestnut tree sitting on the rocks – look right up to the top & right down to where it stands in the earth.
  • Look carefully at the trunk? Can you see a face shape in it?
  • Walk a little closer & look for a hole in the trunk – do you think a small animal might live in this hole? Which animal could it be?
  • Or could it be a fairy door leading to a little home inside? What do you think it might look like inside?

  • What are the seeds of the horse chestnut called? They appear in the autumn – are very prickly on the outside & smooth, brown & glossy on the inside! These seeds were fed to horses in the past to make their coats shine brightly!
