| Gorgeous-Leigh Wild Photographic Competition
The hunt is on for ‘Gorgeous-Leigh’ wild photos !
Calling all budding photographers! The Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project and The National Trust have teamed up with the North West Bristol Camera Club to launch the ‘Gorgeous-Leigh Wild photography competition’. Open to amateur photographers of all ages, the project celebrates the wildlife, landscape and pure enjoyment of the Avon Gorge, the surrounding Downs and Leigh Woods – an area of unique importance for people and wildlife and one of Bristol’s best loved nature reserves.
The partnership is looking for contributions from children and adults alike as Jim Gilligan from the Camera Club explains: “It’s easy, next time you come up to the Downs or Leigh Woods bring along your camera and get snapping. Or perhaps you’d like to enter some lovely pictures you’ve taken in the past. All we are looking for are imaginative and original images. You can enter colour photos, black and white, slides or digital images and we have separate categories for kids and adults, so no matter what age you are you’re welcome to join in.”
The closing date for entries is Tuesday 8th May 2007, so get your skates on if you don’t want to miss out! The address for entries is Gorgeous Leigh Wild Photo Competition, Education Department, Bristol Zoo Gardens, Clifton, BS8 3HA. The winning images will be announced on Friday 25th May.
Mandy Leivers, Education Officer for the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project, explains, “The Gorge, Downs and Leigh Woods are one of Bristol’s best loved areas for wildlife and recreation. We’d like local people to help us capture images of the beautiful plants, animals, views and folks having fun.”
Sponsored by Jessops, the competition prizes include Annual Membership to Bristol Zoo Gardens for the children’s categories and Jessops vouchers. The winning pictures will be part of an exhibition at the Bristol Festival of Nature (2nd - 3rd June 2007) and will also be displayed on the camera club website. A selection of the winning images will also be on show within Bug World at Bristol Zoo (from 8th June to 15th July 2007).
The competition’s esteemed panel of judges includes Mark Carwardine, well known wildlife photographer and broadcaster, Roz Kidman Cox, former Editor of the BBC Wildlife Magazine, and Barry Bluer, President of the South West Counties Photographic Federation.
